We are an Open and Affirming congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ),exploring progressive Christianity, creating new ways to worship and be community in the 21st century, and engaging in ministries of peace, justice and care for earth’s resources.
You are welcome at Cairn just as you are. We celebrate diversity! We welcome all into this sacred space where people of diverse age, gender, gender identity and expression, race, class, sexual orientation, style, life experience, questions faith, doubts, hopes, and dreams find a place to explore, experience, listen, and speak.
We invite you to a journey of discovery about faith, spirituality, relationships, justice and the world in which we live. We offer a holistic approach to this journey, honoring body, mind and spirit, and we celebrate that each of our paths may be very different.
We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world.
As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us.
Welcome to the autumn season! This season we are focusing on who we are as members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Cairn has been a Disciples congregation since the late 1800’s and we continue to have deep roots in this tradition. We will explore together who we are, where we’re called and why it matters. We will talk about our chalice – the Disciples logo; our name – we have two of them; our founders – two of them as well; and our current ministries around the world and in our own region, the logos of many of which you will find on the back of our bulletin.
At the same time we will focus on what it means to be a disciple, with a lower-case “d” – a follower of the way set forth by Jesus and found in the gospels. Because it is autumn, part of this exploration will be about our call to be good stewards of God’s creation and the church. We will talk about our gifts to the church – whether they are the gifts of the spirit, gifts of money, or gifts of time and talent.
As part of this theme, our worship will be in a more traditional Disciples style, using the Lord’s Prayer and the Doxology and taking communion in the pews, which will be set up in the more traditional way.
