The old ways do not work for everyone. We do not yet know the new ways, but we are learning and exploring together, while maintaining our commitment to be faithful people." href="#">new ways to worship and be community in the 21st century, and engaging in ministries of peace, justice and care for earth’s resources.

You are welcome at Cairn just as you are. We celebrate diversity! We invite you to a journey of discovery about faith, spirituality, relationships, justice and the world in which we live. We offer a holistic approach to this journey, honoring body, mind and spirit, and we celebrate that each of our paths may be very different.

As a Community of Faith, We Affirm the Right of Two People to Express Their Love in Marriage – No Matter Their Gender

Recently, a local church made headlines by stating their opposition to gay marriage. As another Christian community of faith in Lafayette, we at Cairn Christian Church, an open and affirming congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) openly affirm the right of any two people to express their love in marriage—regardless of gender. Read the rest of the response. . . . .

About Our Name

Our name is unusual. A cairn is a mound or stack of rocks built at the side of a pathway. They are found all over the world. They are a place to rest. They are signs to show the way when the path is confusing or we are lost. They are symbols of balance and harmony. They are markers of holy places where individuals and groups have experienced God’s presence and decided to leave a lasting reminder. They are beautiful, spontaneous pieces of art that celebrate earth. Cairns are built by many hands working together over time or sometimes by a single person. They can be very simple or extremely elaborate. When we see a cairn we are drawn to add our own stone to the pile. In all of these ways, the cairn is a metaphor for our life together and a reminder that we are always in process. We don’t claim to have it all figured out, but we do claim to love and honor the journey.
